Coffee Club

The Coffee Club meets in the Village Hall on the second Thursday in each month between 10am and 12noon. We serve coffee and homemade cakes and there are Book, Jigsaw and Bring & Buy stalls. It is a pleasant and relaxed way to meet up with friends and neighbours and all residents (and ex-residents) of Downham and Twiston are most welcome.

Cookery Club

Cookery Club takes place around once a month and usually consists of a demonstration at the Village Hall by a local chef followed by supper. Cookery Club also organises outings to Food Lovers’ Festivals and other events as and when they happen. We have arranged a special Harvest Festival Jacob’s Join where everyone brings a dish and recipe sheets to the Village Hall, pasta, cheesemaking and seasonal demonstrations. We aim to keep the sessions affordable, informal and really good fun and still raise a small amount towards Village Hall funds. ‘Members’ are contacted by email, so if you would like to be added to the contact list, please email: olivia@asshetonpr.co.uk. You don’t have to be a parish resident to join and you can attend whichever events appeal to you or are convenient.

Gardening Club

Membership of this small, friendly club is open to all and it meets on the first Thursday in the month from March to December. Experts come and give talks or slide shows and the Club also gets out and about several times a year to visit gardens and other attractions. Annual membership is £7.50 or you may pay £1.50 per meeting at the door. There is an annual Flower and Vegetable show in August (see Special Events for details of this year’s Show) and a Christmas Dinner.

Downham Stage 2

We are people from Clitheroe and the surrounding area who love the theatre and producing plays. We present a Spring and Autumn play. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Downham Village Hall (and afterwards at the pub!). Both on and behind the stage, our aim is to achieve a high standard whilst enjoying ourselves. We value both experienced ‘thespians’ and those who are newcomers to amateur dramatics, in any capacity. WI

Come and join us.
We are a non-political, nationwide women’s organization and the Downham W.I. meets in Downham Village Hall on the third Thursday in every month, at 7.30 p.m. Every age group and religion is welcome. We enjoy guest speakers, nights out, local walks, demonstrations, friendship and much more. Contact Judith Nixon, 01200 445425 or twistonmanor@onetel.com  or just turn up and you will be made most welcome. Find out more about W.I. on www.womens-institute.co.uk.

History Group

When we started the history group meetings in January 2010 the main purpose was to find out what people wanted to do/to know/to research as part of a local history group.  Many ideas came up and we have made some headway in starting history projects that are of interest and can be continued as more information emerges on each subject.  The different projects and themes may be led by individuals or small groups.

We meet approximately every six weeks (see Newsletter for dates) and continue to plan themes suggested by members.  The cost of the meeting is now £1 and anyone is welcome to attend - bring ideas, look for information about local history or family history or just come to listen to the subject of the day.  We welcome ideas and articles for our newsletter which will be issued quarterly.
